The first generation boybands New Kids on The Blocks (NKOTB) that is scheduled to perform in Indonesia with Backstreet Boys (BSB) in June 2012 apparently have not lost its charm proven by 3000 presale tickets that had sold out within minutes.

Berlian Entertainment in cooperation with Asia Sports Development (ASD) will hold the concert at Mata Elang International Stadium (MEIS) in Ancol, North Jakarta, on June 1, 2012.

“The public’s interest for the concert is fantastic. It can be seen from the sales of 3,000 pre sale tickets that had been sold out within seven minutes this afternoon,” Berlian Entertainment CEO Dino Hamid, promoter of the concert, said in a press release as reported by tempo.co on Friday.

The pre-sales tickets ranging from Rp 750,000 (US$82) for festival and Rp 2.5 million for VIP classes were sold online.

“With such price people can see the performance of not only New Kids On the Blocks but also Backtreet Boys. So people bought one ticket for two concerts,” said Dino.

He added for those who had not gotten the tickets yet would be able to buy them in January, “but the price will not be the same,” he said. (iwa)

Harrington: Here are my Top 10 concerts of 2011 – #1 NKOTBSB

Source: [ MercuryNews.com ]

There were a lot of late nights for me in 2011, but looking back at the 100-plus shows I reviewed — and the dozens of others I just tweeted or blogged about — it’s pretty hard to complain about my schedule.

After all, I got to see a ton of great shows, representing so many different kinds of musical flavors, held in the Bay Area this year. My Top 10 list, narrowed down from what I believed to be roughly 20 very worthy candidates, contains equal amounts of pop, hip-hop, rock and R&B/soul. (Sorry, country fans, your favorite genre only got one nod.) The tally could have been even more diverse, had I decided to also draw from the numerous jazz shows I saw in 2011.

One interesting thing to note: All of my top gigs happened in the San Jose and Oakland areas — underscoring what regular concertgoers have known for years — the Bay Area’s live music scene is no longer dominated by San Francisco.

Here are Top 10 concerts of 2011. Next week: my picks for the best records of the year.

1 NKOTBSB, July 2, HP Pavilion, San Jose: Quit laughing. I’m telling you that NKOTBSB — the cleverly named co-headlining tour by the New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) and the Backstreet Boys (BSB) — was 2011’s top show. I’m a sucker for expertly paced pop spectacles that sweep fans away from beginning to end. And that was this show in a nutshell. I’m not a big fan of either band, but that didn’t stop me from singing along with
true Backstreet Pride on “Shape of My Heart” and acting like a New Kid nut on “Step by Step” on this night.

[ Interview with Jordan ] Boys on the block have now become men

THEIR Australian tour isn’t until May next year, but New Kids On The Block lead singer Jordan Knight is already getting excited about his visit to Adelaide.

“Americans when they think of Australia, they think of kangaroos and great white sharks,” Jordan said this week. “But we have been to Australia and Adelaide before, and it was the most beautiful country we have been to. The people were so beautiful inside and out, so I’m looking forward to getting back there.”

However, Jordan (inset in his 80s heyday) did admit that after almost 30 years of touring, some things have changed for the boy band.

“I guess we’re a lot tamer then we were in the ’80s and ’90s, we can’t party like we used to, we’re much more responsible,” he said. “In fact when I’m off tour, I actually feel worse then when I’m on tour. My body slows down and everything settles in – that’s when it’s really tough.”

The show, which the band is double headlining with the Backstreet Boys, will be the largest NKOTB tour to date, but it was their support act on the 2008 reunion tour that went on to become one of the world’s biggest stars.

“Lady Gaga was our support act and she wasn’t famous, but she was exactly the same as she is now,” Jordan said. “She came in like she was famous. She actually was on our record and after that she just blew up, not that I’m saying we’re responsible for all her success . . . but you know” Perhaps some of Gaga’s over-the-top stage antics have left their mark on the boy band, with Jordan promising a show of spectacular proportions.

“There’s a lot of times where all nine of us are on stage together and there’s loads of big dance numbers and a bit of a battle between both boy bands,” he said.

American boy band New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) has been around for at least two decades!

Assembled in 1984, NKOTB currently consists of brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood.

The group enjoyed success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, bagging two American Music Awards in 1990 for Favourite Pop/Rock Band, Duo or Group and Favourite Pop/Rock Album.

NKOTB later disbanded in 1994, with most of the group members starting families and venturing into other avenues. Despite several attempts to get the group back together, none worked out, until 2008.

NKOTB reunited secretly and began recording new materials in 2007. The group released The Block — their first studio album in 14 years — the next year and embarked on a concert tour.

Last year, it was announced that NKOTB and Backstreet Boys (known as NKOTBSB collectively) will tour together in the summer of 2011. Currently, NKOTBSB is set to tour the UK, Europe and Australia in 2012.

This summer New Kids on the Block and the Back Street Boys united to form one huge boy-band nostalgia group — and one very large acronym. The troupes briefly teamed up in the summer of 2010 when the Backstreet Boys, unannounced, joined the New Kids onstage at Radio City Music Hall for a rendition of the BSB hit song, “I Want It That Way.” Rumors started to circulate and fans crossed their fingers in the hopes of a proper comeback.

Their wishes came true in March when the nine-man group (all of the original members of each group, minus BSB member, Kevin Richardson, who left to “pursue other interests”) released its first single, “Don’t Turn Off the Lights Now.” The song is a catchy tune reminiscent of the ones any 20- or 30-something woman used to dance around to in her bedroom, whether she admits it now or not.

The group also kicked off a successful U.S. tour in May, performing classics from their repertoires, including “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “Larger Than Life,” “Step By Step” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” and have announced European dates for 2012.
