Eighties teenage heartthrob Joey McIntyre of “New Kids on the Block” has had more than just a successful singing career. McIntyre has spent recent years proving his acting chops by appearing in roles on shows such as “Boston Public”, “Psych” and “CSI:NY” – but it is his role as Rand Gunn on the teen drama “90210” that has hit closest to home for him. Rand Gunn is a music manager on the show that steps in to help the character of Dixon out, and McIntyre feels close to the role. McIntyre feels that Gunn is a really good guy who does his best to help, even if things don’t always go according to plans in the coming episodes.
“He’s kind of a guy that comes in to save the day,” says McIntyre. “There’s a real reveal toward the end of the episode with one of the main characters that kind of scares him away. Who knows? I might get called back to save the day again.”
McIntyre has made some lasting friendships while on the set of “90210”, namely one which has sprouted between Tristan Wilds (Dixon) and himself. Wilds got his first big break when he played the role of Michael Lee on “The Wire” when he was fairly young and he and McIntyre have bonded over shared experiences. . “We were talking about how young he was on that show,” McIntyre says. “I was very famous as a teenager and going through a lot at that age, too, so we kind of connected on that.”
