[ NKOTBSB ] Backstage with NKOTB: Crazy after all these years

JAKARTA – She was 12 when she first watched them in concert in Singapore back in 1991.

But she had always harboured the hope that she would get up close and personal with her favourite boy band of all time New Kids On The Block (NKOTB).

The 80s US pop quintet disbanded in the early 90s but rekindled their fans’ passion when they reunited four years ago and recently went on tour with 90s US boy band Backstreet Boys (BSB).

The combined “man band” christened themselves NKOTBSB.

Singaporean Debra Palmer, 32, made her dream come true when she paid $3,400 to fly up to Jakarta and Manila last Friday and Sunday respectively to catch NKOTBSB in concert.

The nine-member outfit were performing there as part of the Asia leg of their world tour, which did not include Singapore.

Ms Palmer, who was accompanied by her mum, Ms Valerie Pereira, not only got to meet her favourite NKOTB member, lead vocalist Jordan Knight, 42, she even got to play ping pong with the guys.

NKOTB also comprises Knight’s brother, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood, aged 39 to 43.

Ms Palmer, the director of an event-planning company, told The New Paper: “We were at the meet-and-greet session in Manila and my mum went in first. All of us could get some alone time with the guys, so I was waiting my turn.
