[ JORDAN ] Stuff Magazine Boston: Get Close with … Jordan Knight

It’s been a while since his Teen Beat pinup days, but Jordan Knight still elicits decibel-defying squeals from female fans. At least, that was the case when we caught up with the surprisingly still-swoon-worthy singer when he performed at the Estate during Dancing for Hope, a fundraiser for St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children. Next month, he leaves for a tour of Europe, Asia, and Australia with NKOTBSB, the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys über-group — but not before a final stop on his solo Live and Unfinished Tour, which will hit Showcase Live (23 Patriot Place, Foxborough, 508.543.0609) on Sunday, April 1. Expect songs from his most recent album, Unfinished, plus the requisite dose of oldies. For tickets ($35), visit ticketweb.com.

How’d you get involved with the St. Mary’s event?
My wife is on the board. It’s close to our heart because we both grew up in Dorchester. St. Mary’s used to be St. Margaret’s Hospital. . . . I’d go there when I was little with Donnie [Wahlberg]. His mom worked there, and we’d go to get lunch money or money for the corner store or subway. My wife asked me to perform last year, and I told her, “No, I really have no repertoire right now.” Now I’m on the road doing my thing, so she told me this year I have no excuse. I said, “Well, who’s going to pay for the sound system and everything?” She said, “You are! ‘Cause it’s for charity! So get your butt up on stage and sing!” “Okay, okay. I got you!” [Laughs] But it’s a great cause. We grew up in Dorchester and know how hard it can be. Some people have it rough in life, and all they need is a helping hand.

[ NKOTBSB ] NKOTBSB interview: ‘One Direction need good songs for success’

With boybands fully re-instated in the pop charts, it’s never been a better time to take a trip down memory lane and remind yourself where it all began.

Following their highly successful North American tour last year, pop group pioneers New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys will offer UK fans the chance to catch their classic back catalogue of nostalgic ’80s and ’90s pop anthems.

Digital Spy caught up with NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre and BSB’s Howie Dorough to chat about the new generation of boybands, plans for future albums and whether they’d be up for a guest spot in Glee.

Congratulations on the success of the North American tour last year – how have you found the merge?
Joey: “It’s been great, we’ve hit it off pretty much from the get go and we get along great and that makes it all worthwhile. But then on the professional side we just wanted to make a great show and the two groups feed off of each other. It comes from a pure entertainment perspective. It’s fun to rock and to listen to music, but it’s much more interactive.”

[ JOEY ] MTV.com: NKOTB’s Joey McIntyre Doubts The Staying Power Of One Direction

Veteran boy bander Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block isn’t sure red-hot British bands One Direction and The Wanted are going to be long-term players on the music scene.

Talking to Yahoo UK, McIntyre said, “The odds are against both One Direction and The Wanted – neither of them are going to work in America – it hasn’t happened in 50 years so why now?”

(He had to be speaking specifically about British boy bands, as his own group found success in the U.S. in the early-90s and NKOTB’s tour mates the Backstreet Boys, along with NSYNC and 98 Degrees, led the charge in the late-90s/early-00s boy band Renaissance.)

[ JORDAN ] Show Review: Jordan Knight at Yoshi’s San Francisco, 3/12/2012

Many of you aren’t going to believe me when I say this, but that won’t stop it from being true: the New Kids on the Block just keep getting better with age. Here’s how I know this: I’ve been a fan since I was a first grader. Back then, for me, it was definitely more about cute boys and catchy music than whether or not someone had any actual talent. Happily, though, by the time that ceased to be true, the vocal and musical talents of the group’s main singers had begun to impress me more than I ever dreamed they would. And even if you don’t believe me enough to give them a listen, the photos speak for themselves: these guys are making forty-something look unbelievable. But perhaps I digress a bit…

Having said all this, it should go without saying that when given an opportunity to see them, whether all together as a group (as perhaps a majority will be surprised to learn they’ve been reunited and touring since 2008), or one guy on his own, I’ll move heaven and earth to keep from missing it. Last night, such was the case with the lovely and talented Jordan Knight at Yoshi’s San Francisco. This man has held a very special place in my heart for a very long time, so naturally wild horses couldn’t have kept me from this performance – my first chance to see him solo since 2005. This tour is in support of the recently released Unfinished, in my opinion his best work yet. (And that doesn’t come from a super-biased place, I swear. I don’t think every single album he’s released has been brilliant. This one just is.)

[ DONNIE ] Donnie Wahlberg talks Blue Bloods

It has been 28 years since Donnie Wahlberg burst into the bedrooms of teenagers around the world as part of boy-band pop sensations New Kids on the Block. Now, at 42 years old and the star of CBS cop drama Blue Bloods (airing Fridays at 10 p.m. on CTV), the Bostonian is known as much for his acting as his ability to make girls swoon to his treacly ballads and suggestive hip thrusts.

According to one of Wahlberg’s Blue Bloods castmates, he’s as popular as ever with his many female fans. “Everywhere we go, there’s like 15 to 20 to 30 girls out there waiting,” says Amy Carlson, who, along with the rest of the cast, was sitting for a round of interviews to promote the show at its New York set. Carlson plays the wife of Wahlberg’s character, hard-hitting detective and soft-hearted family man Danny Reagan. “We could be at a cemetery shooting in the rain and I’ll be like, ‘How did they find us?’”
